Val di Luce: Loc. Abetone (Pistoia)

Once called "Valle delle Pozze" the valley, dominated by "Alpe 3 Potenze" (mt 1940 asl), is now known as Valley of Light. The great wealth of water does create "pools" from which the ancient name of the valley, namely small lakes that during the winter season frosen created as a mirrors in the valley. In 1935 the area was purchased by   Ing. Lapo Farinati first Podesta of Abetone Municipality. He wanted to to achieve a great tourist center that interested the entire valley, Farinati had a project that included the construction of a hotel, with different dependencies, slopes and lifts, a needle for ice skating and even a hippodrome and a circuit automotive. Up on the ridge, was a rise tower illuminated by a large lighthouse, which would have made the Valley of Pozze in the modern Val di Luce. Work began in the summer of 1935 but interrupted by the Second World War, most were not taken.
